Back online

My network connection in my apartment gave out late Saturday night, so I had to spend all of Sunday completely disconnected. Planned disconnects are okay. I can go for long periods of time without being online and be just fine. But cut me off unexpectedly, especially when important things are going on with work, and I’m like a caffeine addict on withdrawal.

I’m not sure what is causing the outage, whether the apartment’s provider is to blame or my own machine. The Cube has been acting funny lately, I think the video card is failing (at the very least). I’m going to replace it with a wireless bridge (the Cube is currently routing the apartment complex’s wireless signal to my own wireless base station, so I can have more than one machine connected at a time) and spend some one-on-one time troubleshooting it. Hopefully I won’t have to take it in for repairs.

For the best?

Upon further reflection, I’m feeling better about the car being sold. It had some previous-owner-related issues, like worn tires (at 20,000 miles), and some rough handling of the convertible top latches. I wonder what other related problems would have come up, based on the way the last owner treated it.

I’ve been able to find another one, close to our house in Michigan. Unfotunately, I can’t get up there for another couple of weeks.

The Future is Approaching

Well, today or tomorrow I find out if I’m going to be working for the School of Journalism or remain a full time student. I haven’t heard a whisper about it today, so I’m guessing it’ll be revealed tomorrow.

Oddly enough, I’m not very concerned about it. If I get the job, then I get a car I’ve wanted for a long time. If I don’t get the job, then I continue full-speed ahead on my degree. Either alternative is pleasing to me. Of course, I won’t have a job that pays enough for me to live as a full time student anymore, but that can be dealt with. Maybe STCs would let me hang on for a while longer… :-)
