I had a great Thanksgiving break. I spent it laying around, playing video games with my brother, eating, interviewing my grandfather about his time in the 10th Armored Division during WWII, eating, visiting with my family, and eating.
It wasn’t so bad going back to work, since I like my job. The hard part will be the next couple of weeks in class. I have our final mock rescue coming up this Saturday, the one that counts for about 50% of my grade. Next Tuesday I give a presentation on the documentary I would like to have produced next semester, and turn in the 15 pages of treatment, research, and interview contacts that I’m working on now. On top of those large projects, I have finals in both classes, a location scouting assignment, and an interview synopsis. Thrilling!
How are you doing?
I love curry. Chicken curry is good. So is beer. Chicken curry and beer for lunch makes a hectic morning fade away.
I learned how to roll a kayak tonight. We had a training session in one of the pools at the HPER building, using whitewater kayaks.
I learned how to perform the maneuver pretty quickly, and eventually did 7 in a row without falling back over. However, the whole evening took a toll on my legs. See, you’re kind of wedged into a kayak, especially whitewater kayaks. The insides of your legs are pressed against a hard plastic structure, which gives you a lot of stability and control in the water. But if you’re repeatedly getting in and out of the kayak, as I was while practicing underwater exits before learning to roll – and also when I failed to roll correctly, it’s a little rough on that part of the body. So now my legs have baseball sized bruises on them, just above the knees. And my shoulder hurts from performing the roll over and over again. Oh, and my hips hurt from doing the patented “hip snap” that’s required to be able to breathe air again. Wah.
Ah, the things do to myself to learn cool new stuff.
“Gonna be sore in the mornin’.”
I decided to shave a couple weeks ago. Makes sense…winter’s coming and a beard just keeps my face warm…hey, WAIT!
Seriously though, I was just ready for a change. Fortunately, I can grow facial hair whenever I want. :-)
I have to go see the Lord of the Rings Musical next fall, in London. The potential for laughter is too great for me to miss. And, I haven’t been in London for 10 years, so it’s about time to go back.
Saving money will be the tough part. Hopefully plane ticket prices will go down a bit. Time to channel my Apple Campus Rep paychecks into a special savings account.
