I’ve been investigating how to sell some of my photos with minimal trouble. Selling, printing, packing, and mailing them from Alaska in a timely fashion would be troublesome, if not impossible as things currently stand. However, American Frame Corp will do all of that for me, and let me set my own prices without taking a cut. They charge for printing costs, and then make money off of any matting and/or frames you may purchase. They even have a cool site tool for building a frame around a photo, with a live preview of what it will look like.
If you’re interested in looking at what’s for sale, here’s the link: Ryan Ridge’s Photo Gallery
I’ve set 3 sizes and price points: $15 for 5×7, $25 for 8×10, $35 for 11×17. I will receive slightly more than half of the price, the rest is printing costs.
If you want a particular picture or size that isn’t available there, let me know, and I’ll make it happen.
Um, my pictures make great gifts for loved ones!
Given the current state of my day job (working frantically to finish everything before my August 12th departure), which involves 100% computer work, I’ve been less than eager to work with a computer once I finally make it home. So, the photo blog remains in its unfinished state for now. Perhaps I’ll get to it next week, when work will just be me crawling around hooking up machines instead of staring at documentation and trying to get a whole new software build process off the ground.
Here’s a preview of the first set I’ll be posting to the photo blog. I took some pictures of the construction work being done for a series of shops and apartments on Hillside Drive.

A couple weeks ago I hiked into part of the Hoosier National Forest to take some video with my new HD camera, and take some images of the forest. I went at midday, which is the worst time for photography, so most of my wide shots didn’t turn out so well. The few others that seemed interesting enough to display will start posting tomorrow morning.
I’ve installed a plugin called PhotoQ that puts an image on the blog every 12 hours or so. I’ve loaded it with 4 days worth of pictures, so we’ll see how it does.
The first set will be from a series of pictures I took of the flowers that popped up (okay, IU landscaping placed them) here on campus over the weekend.
I’ll be making some cosmetic changes to this blog throughout the weekend. I spent several hours trying out many different themes, and couldn’t find one I liked even a little bit more than the current theme. The changes will include a larger header image (done), a wider post column (to support a larger image size), and a reorganized sidebar. Plus, I’ll add some more pages to the top navigation bar.
Eventually I’ll be posting a new site to bigwoofs.com, which will be the hub for whatever freelance work I do in Alaska. Wait until you see the logo my friend Katie made for me! There’s a tiny version of it in the header image, but it doesn’t do justice to the full sized one.
