The new Lab Director started work today. It will be nice to not be doing two full time people’s work after 3.5 months.

Fall colors

I pass this tree while walking to work from the staff parking lot, when I’m not riding my bike to work. Today it was just too beautiful to pass by without getting a picture.

This one goes out to my homies in SoCal and AZ, who still miss the changing of the seasons, even with the near-perpetual beautiful weather there.

Detritus of work

Broken tripod heads, instruction manuals, software DVDs, magazines, cables, DV tapes…all the things that cross my desk and stay for awhile. This is the left side of my desk. My workstation sits in the center, and my test machines sit to the right. I typically clear it off once a month, when I can stand the sight of it all. It’s been 2 weeks since the last purge. I may have to decrease the interval time between cleanings.

Bad news

One of the grad students brought his non-functioning Powerbook in today. I attempted a rescue, but we gave up after Diskwarrior encountered over 600 disk malfunctions.
