Now with zoom!

September 22nd, 2008

I’ve been feeling a little limited by the width constraint of my blog for posting photos. I made it pretty big already, by web design standards, formatting it for screens set at 1024×768. Typically we’re supposed to support around 800×600, which was a dying size until all these Ultra Mobile PC’s came out. I’m used to seeing images on my iMac at 1920×1200, so these little photos I size to 683×456 are…underwhelming.

Anyway, I’d like to show at least the horizontally composed pictures at a higher resolution, for those of you with bigger screens, so I’m using a utility called FancyZoom that allows you to click on an image and it will zoom to a larger image outside of the constraints of my blog sizing. I’ve placed the initial image size at 1100×736, so anyone with a newer 13″ screen or larger should be able to see it just fine.

I’ve added the function to the previous post, and I will probably do it for the rest of the images going back a ways.

Photos for sale!

September 16th, 2008

I’ve been investigating how to sell some of my photos with minimal trouble. Selling, printing, packing, and mailing them from Alaska in a timely fashion would be troublesome, if not impossible as things currently stand. However, American Frame Corp will do all of that for me, and let me set my own prices without taking a cut. They charge for printing costs, and then make money off of any matting and/or frames you may purchase. They even have a cool site tool for building a frame around a photo, with a live preview of what it will look like.

If you’re interested in looking at what’s for sale, here’s the link: Ryan Ridge’s Photo Gallery

I’ve set 3 sizes and price points: $15 for 5×7, $25 for 8×10, $35 for 11×17. I will receive slightly more than half of the price, the rest is printing costs.

If you want a particular picture or size that isn’t available there, let me know, and I’ll make it happen.

Um, my pictures make great gifts for loved ones!

1/4 of the Bigwoofs site is now live!

September 14th, 2008

I worked all stinking day coding html and css, just so I could have the technology section of my site ready for my advertising blitz this week. I’m an officially licensed Alaskan business now, and this week I’ll get a bank account and tax certificate for the Kenai Borough. Next step: PROFIT!

I worked off of a flier design Tyra helped me with this past week, and I like how it turned out! Of course, it looks best if you use Safari and have a font called Myriad installed, but it doesn’t look too crappy on IE7 or Firefox. I haven’t even bothered looking at it in IE6, that’ll be a fun task for tomorrow.

If you’re lazy, here are the links:
Bigwoofs.com (main page, only Technology is active)
Bigwoofs.com/technology is the direct link.

Just not that into it

June 27th, 2008

Given the current state of my day job (working frantically to finish everything before my August 12th departure), which involves 100% computer work, I’ve been less than eager to work with a computer once I finally make it home. So, the photo blog remains in its unfinished state for now. Perhaps I’ll get to it next week, when work will just be me crawling around hooking up machines instead of staring at documentation and trying to get a whole new software build process off the ground.

Here’s a preview of the first set I’ll be posting to the photo blog. I took some pictures of the construction work being done for a series of shops and apartments on Hillside Drive.

Reconfig

June 13th, 2008

The site is undergoing another reconfiguration. Since my daily photo posts tend to push actual blog posts out of the way too soon, I’m creating a separate photoblog where I will place my daily pictures.

I’m in the middle of adapting a photoblog template to my needs, so hopefully I’ll have it up and running sometime soon, after I get back from my canoeing trip this weekend.
